Social media and it's users are a rapidly growing community and it continues to grow everyday. Currently 2.46 billion people use social media and as of April 2018 Facebook is the most popular social network in the world.  Social media has many benefits like keeping in contact with people from around the world or keeping up to date with everything that's going on with the world.  In the years that all social media platforms have began to rise up in popularity there is also a rise in online crimes. From stolen identities to fake accounts, social media has helped crime as you can never really tell who it is behind the screen. I t is very easy to be anonymous online, you can use different names and pictures, often people will feel that they can't be touched as they are invincible online.  As most of society has Facebook or Twitter it is not uncommon to see videos or pictures of a violent nature, at one point in time it was a trend for a group of people  to violently be

Potential Dangers of Social Media to Business by Caitlin

Social media offers businesses great positives towards their business but on the other hand of things it also offers potential dangers. A danger can be reputation management. This is when a business can talk badly about another business and this can cause customers to decide to leave communication within that business. They can say things that arent true or they can put online about how bad their customer service is or that a product is not correctly made. This meaning that people will see the reviews on social media and they decide that they do not want to continue business with them. There is always a risk of hacking a business through social media. This can be if their social media website hasn't got enough security within it. For example their password isn't strong enough. Other people may be able to get onto the businesses social media website and put up unnecessary things and inappropriate comments. Other users that follow the business on social media can then see what

Ethical Issues in Social Media by Freya

Social Media is generally portrayed to be a positive platform among society, but people tend to forget the ethical issues behind social media. The most worrying is that young people are possibly the most vulnerable when it comes to social media. Below is a list of ethical issues I will talk about: Privacy When it comes to social media no one can 100% guarantee that they are speaking to the person they say they are. How can we trust people through social media when it is easy for people to conceal their identity, by stealing other people images and pretending to be someone else. As we are aware of all social media sites use data, but the problem of data privacy has become worse by the growing amount of people using social media and not aware of or even paying little to no attention to privacy issues for themselves or others. Although term and conditions were always made aware of at the beginning of singing up, but we as users tend to pass by them and hope fo

Evolution of Social Media by Freya

How social media has evolved!!! Facebook was first open to the public in 2006, twitter appeared in 2007, Instagram appeared in 2010 and Snapchat was created in 2011. As social media progresses, more and more updates keep taking place and new apps keep coming out and older social apps seem to either become underused or just non existent any more. Social media keeps trying to improve the sites everyday by adding new features, new updates to the social media means that many people will carry on enjoying and using the sites. The only issue with developing social media apps, is that other apps usually copy on to ideas. Over the years of social media, the bosses have been trying to make it as open as possible so people can interact with people all over the world  so you can interact with your friends and family, as they are making it and open and friends place to interact with. A current development in social media, Facebook has a reaction button now on Facebook posts, pict

Rights And Responsibilities by Amanda

Responsibilities when using social media When you are using Facebook they are certain terms and conditions you must take into consideration however we tend to not read these so are not quite aware of them and only when something occurs then we realise what we as individuals have opted ourselves into. This is simple things such as you should not post your personal information on your Facebook page because once its there its there is nothing you can do to remove this. It can be things such as national identification numbers,  passport numbers, exam numbers and anything that shows your address, contact number etc. This can cause spam very easily therefore if you prevent doing so this wont occur.Facebook has a harassment policy in place this should be applied and as an individual you should not send messages to people with curse words in it, threats for deaths, injuries or even anything to cause them physical harm. You shouldn't accuse anyone of being a victim of an event or even try to a

Potential Dangers of social media to individuals by Melissa

In this new generation it is not uncommon to see the majority of people sitting on their phones, usually on social media. We use them when we’re bored, unhappy, angry and joyful or any other emotion you can think of but what are the dangers of using social media? There are now a plethora of dangers when using social media, not just physical/mental injury but a potential to hurt your own future because of what you post.    On social media it is easy to get lost in the “crowd” and end up not knowing who you are, that is one of the biggest mental injuries you can sustain. Scrolling through social media and not comparing yourself to everyone else’s accomplishments is extremely hard, you’ll try to imitate their success and end up losing yourself in the process. "Those who follow the crowd, usually end up lost in it"  In this day and age it is easy for anyone to use your pictures and pretend they are you, this could end up getting you into a lot of tr
